Donate today to bring life-changing equipment and supplies to those in need in Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America

Does a wheelchair matter? It does to 16-year old Jenya, who lives in southern Ukraine. Since birth, Jenya has lived with physical challenges that prevent him from walking. But that doesn’t keep him from being an energetic teen who loves to read. Jenya dreams of being able to walk one day, playing with his friends and becoming a film producer.

The life of this teen revolves around seeing doctors. Jenya believes that one day he will overcome his disability. But until that time, his mobility comes from a wheelchair, which he received from Global Action. When Jenya received this gift, he explained, “Thank you so much for the wheelchair. It will help me somuch, but someday I hope to give it back!”

In many parts of the world, hospital equipment is so scarce that people have to share single beds in the hospital, if there is a bed at all. In other areas, war, earthquakes and numerous natural disasters have damaged or destroyed medical facilities that have served people in the past. Medical supplies and equipment are urgently needed in these devastated areas.

Through the donation of new and slightly-used medical equipment, Global Action is able to provide desperately-needed wheelchairs, hospital beds, incubators, operating tables, and other valuable items around the world. While the equipment is donated, it must be packed and shipped from Sweden before July 31, 2010.

Thousands of people with serious medical needs will be helped by this equipment. Many live in remote areas with very little medical assistance available. Often stark, empty clinics and hospitals await critically ill patients in many countries of the world. A Global Action staff member reported from Africa, “We saw three dying patients sharing a single bed throughout this small rural hospital. The facility was built for 85, but was treating around 350. Not only were beds scarce, but there was very little equipment of any kind. They desperately need medical supplies and equipment to treat these patients.”

We have the equipment ready – but urgently need funds to send these containers on their way – bringing life-changing equipment and supplies to those in need in Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America. Every dollar given for shipping provides approximately $15 dollars in medical equipment, a tremendous return on the invested dollar. Each container delivers around $250,000-$300,000 worth of equipment! $35 ships 20 pairs of crutches. $210 dollars ships 10 wheelchairs to help youth like Jenya, or 10 hospital beds. Two containers are ready to be loaded and shipped as follows:

Ukraine last week of July 2010
Sri Lanka last week of September 2010

The total cost to pack, ship and deliver this life-saving equipment to clinics and hospitals is $35,000. This may sound like a lot, but if we all help, we can do it! Gifts of $35, or $350 or even $3,500 will go a long way.
